Escape to our relaxing ranch-style home. Splash in the 50' saltwater pool, complete with spa and tanning bench, surrounded by citrus, bougainvillea, and jasmine. Glass doors invite the outside in: dine alfresco on the shaded patio or stretch out in the sun. Socialize indoors in the open living area, then nap in bedrooms painted in calm adobe colors. At sunset, admire a stunning mountain view -- and at night, watch the yard flicker with shifting rainbow lights.
Our three-bedroom, two-bath home offers a desert retreat with mountain views from the front and the back of the property. Decorated in earth tones and images of the Southwest, it’s filled with golden Southern California light.
When you stay at Casa Azahara, you have the entire property to yourself. Since the back side of the property is open space, you only have two neighbors, also with large lots. While we ask that you be respectful of them, there is plenty of space for everyone.
Garden
The garden is beautifully landscaped with a large pool and spa. We adjoin an open space so you see mountains from both the front and the back of the property. If you put out some birdseed, flocks of birds will visit from nearby trees.
Kitchen
The fully-equipped kitchen includes a gas range, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. A window over the kitchen sink looks out at the pool and the open space beyond. A large countertop open to the living room lets the chef stay part of the action and makes a great breakfast bar. And a built-in outdoor gas grill is ready for your favorite barbecue.
Living and dining room
The living room includes a 55" Smart TV for bingeing on your favorite streaming shows. The dining table stands between two glass doors, bringing the outdoors inside. And at the front door, an automated security system gives you peace of mind.
Bedrooms
The master bedroom has a king bed while the other two have queens. Each has a full closet with inset shelves and drawers. And each bedroom has a view: the master bedroom looks out at the pool and open space, while the other two face the mountains.
Workspaces
Should you need to get some work done while you're here, two of the bedrooms include desks with office chairs and acrylic mats. One bedroom has an ethernet outlet and we provide a 25' ethernet cord so that you can take full advantage of the 400mbps connection with Spectrum internet.
Parking, garage, and laundry
You’ll probably want a car when you visit us, although taxi and app-based services are excellent in Palm Springs. The city allows you to have up to three cars, one parked in the garage and two in the driveway. The garage has an automatic door, plus an entry through the laundry room (with washer & dryer) convenient to the kitchen for bringing in groceries.
Getting around
The Palm Springs airport is only 5 minutes away, and downtown about 7 minutes. We are only a block from Vista Chino, with supermarkets and restaurants just down the street. Also nearby is the Escena golf club, whose outdoor restaurant offers stunning views. Or skip the car altogether and take off by bicycle to explore the popular parks and hiking trails in the area.
Our home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood just above Vista Chino and near Gene Autry -- very easy to find from Highway 10. It's safe and a pleasant place to walk in the evening. It's not in the middle of the action, but convenient to major streets for getting around town.
A bus line runs east-west along Vista Chino, with stops in both directions about a block from the house. A bus line runs north-south along Gene Autry, with stops about 6 blocks from the house. Taxis and app-based rides such as Uber and Lyft are readily available.
Groceries
Some popular grocery store options are:
- Sosa's and Tienda Mexicana (small grocery stores): .4 miles
- Stater Brothers (a major supermarket chain): 1.2 miles
- Albertson's (a major chain): 1.2 miles
- Aldi (a major chain): 2.8 miles
- Cardenas (a supermarket specializing in Latin food): 4.8 miles
- Trader Joe's (a specialty supermarket): 4.9 miles
Pool and jacuzzi
Please note that the pool is heated for a daily fee that varies by season. If you choose not to heat the pool, there is no cost to heat the jacuzzi as long as you run it for 4 hours or less per day.
Palm Springs taxes
Palm Springs charges two taxes that total 12.5%. Note that if you stay 30 days or more, this tax is waived.
Minimum stay
Typically we require a minimum stay of 4 nights. This is because Palm Springs only allows us a certain number of guests each year, and they run out quickly. You are welcome to inquire about shorter stays if you choose.
House Rules and Palm Springs regulations
With the exception of the non-smoking policy, all of the following are regulations that apply to all vacation rentals in Palm Springs. Respecting these rules allows us to offer our home to you and future guests.
- Our home is for low-key retreats, not parties. Palm Springs has strict noise ordinances and we take them seriously. If any neighbor complains about music or noise, this can put our license in danger and subject you to a hefty fine from the city.
- We do not permit smoking of any kind on the property with the exception of the driveway and at the benches in the corner of the backyard. Evidence of smoking anywhere else will result in total forfeiture of deposit.
- No rentals to anyone under 25 years of age.
- Maximum overnight guests: 6 - Maximum daytime guests: 10
- The Palm Springs Vacation Property Rental Agreement must be completed and signed within 24 hours of arrival. The agreement must be signed by every adult staying in our home.
Hold Harmless
Our insurance company requires us to tell you that use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, BBQ and other features is at your own risk. Please practice safety measures while using these features at all times and always supervise your children.
About Us
We divide our time between Palm Springs, Colombia, and Fort Lauderdale. We used to rent out our home in Fort Lauderdale and hope to do that again one day… and are hoping to share a property soon in Colombia as well! Please stay in touch if you’d like to know more.
People have asked us, why "Casa Azahara"? Well... we love citrus trees, and "azahar" is the Spanish/Arabic word for orange blossom. It also means bright and shining, like the sunlight in Palm Springs, and is the name of a famous medieval palace in Spain. Our logo is based on the beautiful arches that appear throughout the ruins there.
If you're curious about us, Alejandro has worked as a lawyer, nonprofit administrator, and bodyworker. Mark has worked as a custom application developer, singer, actor, and writer (search for "Mark Baum Music" on the web).
